For eight months, Lucy worked in class and with a tutor to study the language skills and U.S. civics topics she would need to pass the naturalization test.

Harka and Sancha Limbu and their family were the first Bhutanese refugees to be resettled in Madison in 2009. Last month, after studying with Literacy Network for years, they were sworn in as new U.S. citizens!

Before he could finish high school in Mexico, José Luis de Hilario started working. He has lived in the U.S. for more than ten years. He first found Literacy Network because he had the goal of improving his spoken and written English to communicate better with his co-workers.
“I never miss it! I don’t think I’ve missed one class! It really helps having a tutor. I’m so lucky to have had Kristina all this time. It makes a big difference when you’re super-comfortable with somebody. We’ve become friends.”
