Many thanks to The Oscar Rennebohm Foundation for supporting the dreams of English language-learning adults in our community through Literacy Network’s Advanced Advising for Career Transitions Program with Madison College.
“Oscar Rennebohm believed in the importance of education and that education creates a stable, informed community. The Oscar Rennebohm Foundation continues his legacy of supporting organizations that offer vital services that can reduce disparities in education and ultimately increase employment opportunities. We are proud to continue our financial commitment to Literacy Network’s Advanced Advising for Career Transitions program,” says Steven F. Skolaski, President of the Oscar Rennebohm Foundation Board of Directors.
Transitions began in January 2019 to provide specialized support for adult learners to transition out of our adult basic education services into Madison College or other professional degree or certificate program. In its first two years, the program has already:
- served 93 English Language Learning (ELL) adults
- provided 50 ELL adults with academic skill-building, English as a Second Language instruction (ESL) in group classes
- connected 39 participants to opportunities at Madison College or other area workforce certification programs
Madison College is committed to continuing its partnership in this important work through classes in the School of Academic Advancement. Adults with support from Literacy Network are more likely to succeed at Madison College, as they demonstrate an increase in test scores over those who did not receive tutoring, an increase in attendance, and a greater likelihood of enrolling in an additional semester. In addition, they attend career and academic advising sessions with Literacy Network staff and Madison College staff.
