Altrusa International of Madison is a women’s service organization with a particular focus on literacy. The Madison group has partnered with Literacy Network since 2018 to make it possible for adult learners to pursue continued education through scholarships.
Cheryl Daniels, Altrusa International of Madison President, says, “We are happy to give money directly to students through this continued partnership with Literacy Network. Scholarships recipients are non-traditional students. We give to people who are looking to get over the hump of completing their education and getting through their goals. That’s what the money is there for.” The scholarships help pay for tuition, books, class supplies, or anything that will help students study.
This year, we celebrate nine hardworking adult learners who received direct financial support to enroll in an educational program and pursue a career path by studying for a workplace certificate, technical degree, GED, or HSED. Says recipient Pilar, who received a scholarship to pursue a career as a healthcare interpreter, “I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to Literacy Network for changing people’s lives and making hopes possible. For helping my family and me in our education which is the best treasure we can ever get in this life.”
Congratulations to Anabel, Awao, Hatice, Hussein, Julio, Juan, Mirta, Pilar, and Rosa!
