Tutors and interns prepare to welcome Afghan learners

Literacy Network’s team is working diligently to form connections with Afghan refugees and has already welcomed a number of Afghan learners to class. We anticipate enrollment of Afghan refugees to continue to increase this fall semester.

Literacy Network held an in-service training for interns and tutors on June 7th to help them learn more about Afghan culture and what learners may have experienced. Members of the Afghan Education Support Team, who aided Afghan refugees at Fort McCoy, shared insights they gained from teaching ESL and supporting Afghan people during their transition to life in the United States. They also discussed trauma-informed practices and instruction.

Literacy Network offers broad support for refugees in Dane County and continuously seeks the best ways to help people from more than 60 countries.
