Becoming a Volunteer
One-to-One Tutoring
Both English as a Second Language (ESL) and Basic Literacy tutoring opportunities are available. After completing the information session and training, we will match you with an adult learner. Tutoring locations and hours are flexible. We ask for a 6-month commitment of 2 hours of instruction per week.
Community Literacy
The Community Literacy program is held at the following times and locations:
Literacy Network
1118 S. Park Street
Mondays 6-8 p.m.
Wednesdays 6-8 p,m,
Saturdays 9-11 a.m.
Neighborhood House
29 Mills Street
(starting March 14)
Wednesdays 2:30-4:30 p.m.
www.neighborhoodhousemadison.org
Boys & Girls Club
4705 Jenewein Road
(starting April 24)
Tuesdays 6-8 p.m.
www.bgcdc.org
Tutors should arrive at the site 15 minutes before the beginning of the session. Literacy Network asks that tutors make a four-month commitment as a Community Literacy tutor.
For both tutoring programs, you do not need to know a foreign language or have teaching experience to be a tutor. The diversity of our tutors enriches the lives of our learners and the tutoring programs at Literacy Network.
