Security Health Plan awards $10,000 grant for English for Health
Madison, WI (1/9/2014)

Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc. has awarded Literacy Network one of 17 statewide Healthy Communities Mini-Grants. "Security Health Plan believes in the value of partnerships in improving the health and well-being of our communities and our neighbors," said Chief Administrative Officer Steve Youso. "These mini-grants are another way Security Health Plan is investing responsibly in programs that address significant health issues facing us."

"We greatly appreciate the partnership of Security Health Plan in helping families achieve better health locally and around the state," said Literacy Network Executive Director Jeff Burkhart.

The grant will support Literacy Network's award-winning English for Health program, which has demonstrated a major impact with adult learners over the last five years. These results include:

- Increased confidence in interaction with healthcare providers.
- Increased understanding of appropriate use of primary care, emergency room, Urgent Care and health care options for the uninsured.
- Improved ability to understand community healthcare resources.

"I know that I speak for our Security Health Plan family when I say that we are looking forward to seeing the fruits of this partnership," said Youso.

Security Health Plan is a health maintenance organization sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, now serving more than 200,000 residents in 40 counties of Wisconsin. Accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), Security Health Plan insures employees of large and small businesses, individuals and families, and administers self-funded employer health plans.
